China Send Off: July 2010

Deb Lane will leave us for China in just a matter of weeks, so we squeeze in one last bike adventure to DC. We stretched the first day's ride out to 40 miles by riding from Lisa's house south on 123.

To Silverbrook, to route 1.

deb l., lisa, Katie. No, we didn't eat burger king. but you can't
take a pic on rte. 1 without a fast food sign in the background.
I don't know how happy everyone was
with the route planner (me) at this point!

To (and through) Belvoir Air Force Base (thanks Lisa for talking us past the guards!), to the GW parkway, to Mount Vernon.

Through Old Towne

Over the 14th Street bridge

And through the FDR memorial.

why is this the only picture I took?

We pampered ourselves Deb Lane style by staying in the Donovan house, a swanky hotel with a rooftop pool and bar. I was coerced into sneaking into a private party with free drinks (not) and where everyone promised no one would notice us or ask us who we were (not).

the crashers (can you see the nervous sweat on my brow?

We hit the town after happy hour, going to multiple bars (all of which I'm sure Lisa and Deb L. could list for us!)

and ending up on another rooftop for dinner.

And there was still the trip home the next day. Started off with lattes by the pool.

Then we rode over to the Mansion on O street for a tour:

Then we rode up Rock Creek Parkway circling around at beach street to head back to Georgetown for lunch.

We hoped to hit Georgetown Cupcakes but the line went around the corner and up the road (which we now understand is an everyday occurrence).

THEN, we hit the W&OD for the ride home.

why in the world would we be tired?
